Speaker 1: Short form video.
00:00:01
You know you have to do it, but you're not sure how to get
00:00:05
started.
00:00:05
I was in the exact same point, but over the weekend I had some
00:00:09
free time and I successfully, using one tool, was able to
00:00:13
create about two dozen short form videos, which now I can
00:00:16
drip feed over the various socials for the next few weeks.
00:00:19
How did I do it, how do I recommend you do it, and what
00:00:23
other advice can I offer you for short form video?
00:00:26
Well, that's going to be the topic of today's episode of the
00:00:29
your Digital Marketing Coach podcast.
00:00:33
Speaker 2: Digital social media content, influencer marketing,
00:00:36
blogging, podcasting, vlogging, tiktoking, linkedin, twitter,
00:00:40
facebook, instagram, youtube, seo, sem, ppc, email marketing
00:00:48
there's a lot to cover.
00:00:49
Whether you're a marketing professional, entrepreneur or
00:00:52
business owner, you need someone you can rely on for expert
00:00:56
advice.
00:00:56
Good thing you've got Neil on your side, because Neil Schaefer
00:01:02
is your digital marketing coach , helping you grow your business
00:01:10
with digital first marketing, one episode at a time.
00:01:13
This is your digital marketing coach, and this is Neil Schaefer
00:01:19
.
00:01:19
Speaker 1: Hey everybody, neil Schaefer here, your digital
00:01:23
marketing coach, and welcome to episode number 368 of this
00:01:29
podcast.
00:01:29
Before we get to short form video, I always like to share a
00:01:32
little bit of what I am following in the news in hopes
00:01:35
that it is helpful to you.
00:01:36
I think the biggest news over the past week was the Surgeon
00:01:39
General, no less, of the United States, who is normally focused
00:01:43
on medical issues, literally said that he wants to propose a
00:01:48
social media warning label for kids, saying that social media
00:01:53
can harm kids.
00:01:54
Now I believe this is sort of unprecedented, because when you
00:01:58
think of the surgeon general warnings, it's like you know,
00:02:00
cigarettes or nicotine causes cancer, what have you?
00:02:02
So I think we all agree that, with COVID especially, there
00:02:08
have been a lot of different mental health issues in
00:02:10
societies around the world, and social media generates a new
00:02:14
challenge.
00:02:14
But you know, my take is TV also generated a challenge, and
00:02:18
when I see kids spending time hours in a day on TikTok, I
00:02:21
remember us spending hours a day on TV or, later on, hours a day
00:02:27
playing games.
00:02:27
You could say that games, or video games equally, are
00:02:32
detrimental to one's mental health, especially for your
00:02:34
child.
00:02:34
Yet there are no restrictions on that.
00:02:36
So you know, together with the proposed TikTok ban.
00:02:40
I don't know what's going to happen.
00:02:41
Obviously, I'm not going to lose sleep over it.
00:02:42
I don't think it's going to change.
00:02:43
Obviously, I'm not going to lose sleep over it.
00:02:44
I don't think it's going to change anything immediately.
00:02:45
But I do think that social media platforms are going to
00:02:48
have to be more cognizant of this and maybe consider how they
00:02:52
can adjust their functionality or their auditing, their
00:02:57
censorship or non-censorship, to be able to abide by this.
00:03:00
So I don't foresee any big changes in the near future.
00:03:03
Like I said, don't lose sleep about it.
00:03:06
Also now, I've been experimenting a lot with
00:03:09
Instagram threads of recent and I finally am starting to see
00:03:13
some traffic actually come to my website from threads, which is
00:03:16
more than I would ever get from Instagram.
00:03:17
It's still very, very early, but it's really good news to see
00:03:21
that they finally launched an API for developers.
00:03:24
So basically, without an API, you cannot use third-party
00:03:28
social media scheduling tools unless you use the universal
00:03:32
posting method, where you get a notification on your app and
00:03:35
then you copy and paste, which is how I do posting the threads
00:03:38
currently with SocialBee.
00:03:40
But now that they launched the API, there will be more and more
00:03:44
support for threads on various dashboards that you use, and I
00:03:49
think that's going to be good news.
00:03:50
It'll allow you to more easily engage on threads.
00:03:52
Is your audience on threads?
00:03:53
I don't know.
00:03:54
I think that I consider threads a subset of what Twitter was,
00:04:00
and Twitter is a subset of what it was as well.
00:04:02
So you add Twitter and threads together.
00:04:04
You still do not get what Twitter was, but you also have
00:04:07
this Instagram connection and you also sometimes in the
00:04:10
Instagram feed they're pushing threads.
00:04:12
So it'll be interesting to see how it develops.
00:04:14
I am spending more time on it and I'm looking forward to what
00:04:19
happens there.
00:04:20
Another interesting report in the news is I like to go to
00:04:25
marketingchartscom.
00:04:27
They offer a lot of analysis and data points really on what
00:04:31
is going on in the world of marketing.
00:04:33
So they found in the latest report this should be no
00:04:37
surprise that TikTok, instagram and Snapchat in other words,
00:04:42
millennials and primarily Gen Z and I think it's called Gen
00:04:45
Alpha, the next generation after Gen Z are using these platforms
00:04:48
for product information, news and we've always known messaging
00:04:52
.
00:04:52
But TikTok has seen a 102% rise in users seeking product info
00:04:57
and an 89% increase in those using it for news.
00:05:01
Now, this actually was measured from Q4 2020 to Q4 2023.
00:05:07
But generations change.
00:05:09
The way that we consume media changes.
00:05:12
The vibe that people want from a brand, from a website, from a
00:05:17
social media presence changes quite rapidly these days.
00:05:20
So even if you don't think your audience is on TikTok, I do
00:05:26
encourage you to at least download the app.
00:05:28
You don't have to post anything , you don't have to connect it
00:05:31
to your phone book, but at least look at what other people in
00:05:34
your industry are talking about.
00:05:36
I am finding, okay, I am going to talk about short form video
00:05:39
and I've already started to experiment with this.
00:05:41
So, to give you an idea, I am sharing short form video across
00:05:46
various platforms, but the three most strategic, if you think
00:05:48
about it, for short form video are going to be YouTube shorts,
00:05:53
instagram reels and Tik TOK.
00:05:55
I still share to X, to LinkedIn , to Facebook.
00:05:57
I think video is always a good thing to share.
00:05:59
The algorithms love it Keeps people on your profile longer.
00:06:02
It's a win winwin, right.
00:06:03
If I go over the last few YouTube shorts versus Instagram
00:06:09
Reels, versus TikTok videos and these are pretty much the same
00:06:12
videos.
00:06:13
They're all published on different days of the week and
00:06:15
different times, but it's the same content If I look on
00:06:17
YouTube right now my last six videos I'm getting between 10
00:06:22
and 43 views.
00:06:24
Okay, so YouTube shorts 10 to 43 views.
00:06:26
On Instagram my last five videos I'm getting between 289
00:06:32
and 638 views.
00:06:34
And if I go to TikTok, though, I'm getting between 541 and
00:06:39
1 views.
00:06:41
So definitely seeing more traction in TikTok, believe it
00:06:46
or not.
00:06:46
And it raises the question you know you have a target audience.
00:06:50
Maybe a smaller percentage of that target audience are on
00:06:53
TikTok than other platforms, and TikTok is growing older as we
00:06:57
speak, by the way, but all it takes is a passionate small
00:07:00
percent of those one point, whatever billion users to be
00:07:04
attracted to your content for you to be able to really get
00:07:07
traction.
00:07:07
So I share those numbers just to encourage you that it's not
00:07:12
too late to get into this and you really should take it more
00:07:15
seriously.
00:07:15
And this is a great way to lead into short form video what I
00:07:18
want to talk about today.
00:07:19
But before I do that, just a quick update.
00:07:22
I've been reaching out to a number of authors and
00:07:24
influencers and I've shared some of them on this podcast to give
00:07:27
their blessing for my new book, and the deadline for receiving
00:07:29
those was last night, so today I will be working on finalizing
00:07:33
the interior copy with this advanced praise information,
00:07:36
which is also going to help me choose which of those go on the
00:07:39
back potentially front cover and then finalize the back cover
00:07:42
and then I can move forward in the actual production of the
00:07:44
book.
00:07:45
I am also expecting my final Kickstarter images to come back
00:07:48
today, so this week is when things finally start to go into
00:07:52
motion.
00:07:52
So, yeah, be on the lookout for the new book.
00:07:55
I know it's been a long process , but hey, there's a lot of
00:07:57
moving parts.
00:07:58
So let's get into the topic of short form videos.
00:08:00
As I said, I had some downtime and I have worked with various
00:08:06
companies and various people on Fiverr and Upwork to try to do
00:08:12
short form video.
00:08:12
You know, we know, that this is a major type of content
00:08:17
consumption.
00:08:17
It is the number one on many networks and probably anywhere.
00:08:20
Video is going to be supreme and it's the short videos that
00:08:24
seem to be the most popular.
00:08:25
I think any company has to have short form video as part of
00:08:29
their social media marketing today.
00:08:31
It is part of modern marketing, right?
00:08:33
So, obviously, you know, I have a B2B product.
00:08:36
It's just information, it's education, and when I look at my
00:08:39
sources of videos, I realized that there's three different
00:08:43
types.
00:08:43
I have solo videos that I do on YouTube, educational videos
00:08:47
Sometimes I do webinars what have you but I have these solo
00:08:50
pieces.
00:08:50
I also have my digital first mastermind and, by sharing
00:08:54
selected snippets with the approval of my members, it helps
00:08:57
educate, but it also helps promote that mastermind group
00:09:00
right.
00:09:01
The other one are the podcast interviews that I do, and I'm
00:09:05
interviewing some pretty amazing thought leaders.
00:09:08
Right, I'm just looking at my schedule for the next few weeks,
00:09:11
but you know I'll be interviewing Dennis Yu shortly,
00:09:15
john Jantz, duct Tape Marketing, amy Woods, content 10X, andy
00:09:18
Lambert, social 3.0 author and also product manager over at
00:09:22
Adobe.
00:09:22
And there's going to be some amazing people on my podcast and
00:09:25
people that I've interviewed recently Dave Kirpin and Robert
00:09:28
Rose.
00:09:28
So there's some pretty amazing content that is being recorded.
00:09:32
So my thought was that let me start with this podcast
00:09:37
interview content, let me start to get some data right Of which
00:09:40
of this content is going to perform best.
00:09:42
But let me start with the interview and let me just dive
00:09:46
headfirst into using one of these short form video tools,
00:09:49
and I want to give you this advice Maybe you're already
00:09:51
using a tool, maybe you're just starting out, but I want to make
00:09:54
sure that you do it the right way and also understand things
00:09:58
that you might need to adjust to best do it.
00:10:00
So this now brings into light a process I have for selecting
00:10:05
tools.
00:10:06
If you've been a follower of my blog, neilschafercom, I write a
00:10:09
lot of listicle posts on different types of tools for
00:10:13
digital marketing, and this has always been part of my DNA
00:10:17
because, for those that remember , I was the co-founder of the
00:10:20
Social Tools Summit, which just focused on social media
00:10:23
marketing technology back in 2014, 2015.
00:10:26
Man, it's been 10 years.
00:10:27
Time flies.
00:10:28
Regardless, I've always been fascinated by technology.
00:10:31
I've always known that it is critical to success and
00:10:36
therefore I've always paid really, really close attention
00:10:39
to it.
00:10:39
So when I write these blog posts, for a lot of them they're
00:10:43
R&D.
00:10:44
Right, I'm not a regular user of this type of tool, but I know
00:10:46
it's important and I want to do a little bit more research and
00:10:50
try to gauge it.
00:10:51
Who are the leading players in the field?
00:10:53
That is sort of the first thing , right?
00:10:55
If you just do a Google search for repurposing video, you don't
00:11:00
know if the results especially if they're from sponsored ads
00:11:03
you don't know if they're the leading companies or not.
00:11:05
In fact, how do you know?
00:11:06
It's really really hard to understand, but this is what I
00:11:10
do.
00:11:13
I might go through 50 to 100, depending on the keyword but I
00:11:17
will then start to look at not only what are the companies that
00:11:20
are ranking organically I don't pay attention to the paid but I
00:11:23
also look at what are the tools that are being featured in
00:11:25
other listicles.
00:11:26
Now, I don't do this, but a lot of bloggers that write
00:11:30
listicles will focus only on tools that have affiliate
00:11:33
marketing programs, because that's their ROI is.
00:11:36
They want to provide the listicle so that you click
00:11:38
through and you end up generating affiliate commission
00:11:41
for them.
00:11:41
In all honesty and transparency , I do that when there is a tool
00:11:46
that I mentioned that I'm also an affiliate for.
00:11:49
I think that's just a natural thing to do, but I don't let it
00:11:51
decide on which tools go into that list, because that would be
00:11:55
not fair to you and it really wouldn't represent the best
00:11:58
choices that are out there.
00:11:59
So I do look, though, at what tools are being featured on
00:12:03
other lists, and the other thing I look at is I will look at the
00:12:06
domain rating of those tools that come up in the organic
00:12:09
search results, and the reason is and I use the Ahrefs tool
00:12:13
it's a free tool where you can get a zero to 100 check on the
00:12:16
domain rating for any company.
00:12:24
If you're an SEO, you probably use a tool.
00:12:25
I mean Moz, semrush.
00:12:25
They all have their own algorithms to determine a number
00:12:27
, but it's usually between zero and 100.
00:12:28
And the importance of this number is that, generally
00:12:31
speaking, the higher the number, the better the SEO, generally
00:12:35
speaking, right.
00:12:35
What that means, though, is not just that it appears in a lot
00:12:39
of search engine rankings for different keywords.
00:12:42
That is definitely part of it, but another part of it is how
00:12:46
long that website's been around, and another part of it, which I
00:12:49
think is even more important, is the amount and quality of
00:12:52
backlinks that it receives.
00:12:53
So if you're a new company with new technology that hasn't been
00:12:56
tested, you're going to have a low domain authority, and you're
00:12:59
probably going to have very few backlinks, and the lifespan of
00:13:03
your website is going to be very short.
00:13:05
So what, analyzing the domain authority of these tools,
00:13:09
companies?
00:13:09
What it offers you is the ability to say who is
00:13:12
well-established in the market and who is an upstart.
00:13:14
Right, because you can't, like you know, you're not going to
00:13:19
test out 50 different tools.
00:13:21
That's just crazy, so I always focus on the number 10 or 15.
00:13:24
So what are going to be like?
00:13:25
The top 10 or 15 that rise above everybody else that are
00:13:29
going to be fairly safe bets to use?
00:13:32
So for this purpose, I began to use a tool called Opus Clip.
00:13:38
Now I do have an affiliate link for this tool, which, if you
00:13:42
listened to my podcast episode where I brought home the
00:13:44
takeaways of that conference, opus Clip was the number one
00:14:05
tool being talked about for video repurposing.
00:14:08
A former Instagram executive and I'm forgetting his name
00:14:12
right now, but he has also spoke at VidSummit the last two times
00:14:15
.
00:14:15
He's become a strategic advisor for Opus Clip and someone that
00:14:20
I have immense respect for, roberto Blake, someone I have
00:14:22
immense respect for also mentions Opus Clip as his tool,
00:14:26
so I knew that it was sort of the default tool that everybody
00:14:29
was using.
00:14:30
So I started out using Opus Clip right, and I'm going to get
00:14:33
into details of how I use it.
00:14:34
But before I mention that, opus Clip basically allows you to
00:14:38
take a link.
00:14:39
So I would add a link of the YouTube live stream that I did
00:14:43
and within you know, 30 minutes, it would take an hour video and
00:14:47
basically, it recommended 30 different short form videos,
00:14:52
anywhere from 15 seconds to two minutes and 30 seconds.
00:14:55
Right, that's a lot of content to go through, but it also
00:14:58
speaks to the power of AI and video and this tool particularly
00:15:01
, and I spent a lot of time going through you know, first of
00:15:05
all, which are the ones that I want to keep and then, of the
00:15:07
ones that I want to keep, do I need to add text before and
00:15:10
after?
00:15:10
There's a number of things B-roll, a number of things that
00:15:12
you can do with the tool, which is awesome, but it also has a
00:15:15
social media scheduler.
00:15:16
So I found myself creating the video using their social media
00:15:21
scheduler and I, you know, over the course of two days, over the
00:15:25
weekend, I literally had, I think, 25 videos scheduled from
00:15:28
two different YouTube videos.
00:15:30
That I did.
00:15:31
But when I went in the next day, to my surprise, there was a
00:15:36
glitch and the glitch basically said I'm going to try to find it
00:15:39
here.
00:15:39
The glitch basically said it could not preview the video
00:15:43
anymore and it said please check your original source.
00:15:46
In other words, I had to go back in and re-edit those videos
00:15:49
and it made me question is Opus Clip ready for prime time right
00:15:54
.
00:15:54
So I'm going to get to what I recommend you do if you want to
00:15:58
use it, because I wasted a lot of time that I don't want you to
00:16:00
waste.
00:16:00
But I also want you to know, and I think by describing or
00:16:04
comparing Opus Clip to some of the other tools, you get a
00:16:06
feeling as to why I recommend it .
00:16:08
So after that happened on Sunday, it's like okay, maybe
00:16:13
it's not Opus Clip right, maybe there are other tools that are
00:16:16
better.
00:16:17
I'm going to go check them out and I want to share with you
00:16:19
what I found, because maybe you're using one of these other
00:16:21
tools or you've heard of them, but this is what I find today.
00:16:24
So a tool called CLAP, k-l-a-p.
00:16:27
Dude.
00:16:28
I couldn't even register on the platform because the email
00:16:32
verification that was required.
00:16:34
The email got sent out like six hours after I registered, so
00:16:40
there was obviously a glitch in their system.
00:16:41
But if I have to wait six hours to get a email verification in
00:16:44
order to become a new user, that is not the platform for me, so
00:16:47
that was immediately out of the question.
00:16:49
A Pictoryai is a pretty good platform, but Pictory.
00:16:53
The issue with them is they did not have auto framing.
00:16:56
So what auto framing is if you ever watch a live stream video
00:17:00
that I do I like to change up the angles, so sometimes it'll
00:17:04
be my guest covering the entire screen and sometimes it'll be me
00:17:08
and my guest covering 50% of the screen each.
00:17:11
And what auto framing does is when the video clips are created
00:17:16
using AI, it actually makes sure that it automatically will
00:17:20
just have one person in the frame or two people in the frame
00:17:23
, and it's automatically centered.
00:17:25
It is a critical technology that if you don't have it's
00:17:28
going to require you a lot of time for each video to go in and
00:17:31
manually frame.
00:17:32
So the fact that Pictory did not have AutoFraming at least
00:17:34
not that I could tell right Immediately no.
00:17:39
Another one was Video V-I-D-Y-O Looked like a great tool, but
00:17:42
the free trial for like seven days or whatever it is it did
00:17:46
not allow me to test out the auto-framing, and the
00:17:50
auto-framing requires a $50 a month investment.
00:17:53
So another reason why I'm going to recommend you go to
00:17:56
neilschafercom slash Opus now is that I was able to subscribe at
00:18:00
a $20 a month program.
00:18:02
Video begins at $50 a month.
00:18:05
So not only is Opus the best tool, but right now it's the
00:18:09
cheapest and, as I've seen from Jasper and phrase and all these
00:18:12
other tools.
00:18:13
Over time, as they get bigger in the market, they do increase
00:18:16
their prices.
00:18:16
So another reason why I recommend at $20 a month.
00:18:19
It is a no brainer investment up to like five hours of video.
00:18:22
It's crazy.
00:18:23
I've uploaded three interviews and I still have three hours and
00:18:26
43 minutes left.
00:18:27
Maybe it's six hours of video, I forget, but anyway you get the
00:18:29
picture.
00:18:30
Let me go through some of these other tools so that you can see
00:18:33
the issues.
00:18:33
Captionsai, I could not log in with email address.
00:18:38
I was forced to use like, either Google or Apple or
00:18:40
Facebook.
00:18:41
And it's like you know what, if I can't use my email address
00:18:44
and if I need a VA or someone in the future to log into my
00:18:46
account using email, I can't use this tool.
00:18:49
So that's out of the picture.
00:18:51
Flexclip Flexclip looked like a great tool, but you cannot
00:18:55
import a YouTube video.
00:18:56
Clip looked like a great tool, but you cannot import a YouTube
00:19:00
video.
00:19:00
So I don't want to have to sit there waiting an hour to upload
00:19:02
a two gig video or whatever it is.
00:19:03
That's a no-go.
00:19:04
Submagic is another interesting tool.
00:19:07
Once again, cannot import YouTube video.
00:19:09
I think that's a critical component.
00:19:10
Exemplary, so exemplaryai.
00:19:14
And as we get to the bottom here , these were the more
00:19:15
interesting tools that I think deserve a little bit more
00:19:18
attention.
00:19:18
One thing is that auto-framing they call it motion tracking
00:19:22
they're very transparent, saying this is still in development.
00:19:25
The other one is that, let's say, the AI picks a video, but
00:19:30
AI is not perfect and sometimes you want to add a little bit
00:19:32
context by adding a little bit of text before what the clip
00:19:38
decided on, right?
00:19:39
You want to add a little bit before or maybe add a little bit
00:19:41
after.
00:19:42
You cannot do that in exemplary .
00:19:44
You can only edit or delete the current text from the
00:19:48
transcript that it's chosen.
00:19:49
So that's a no-go.
00:19:51
And exemplary was the only one who reached out to me and asked
00:19:53
for my feedback and I said this is my feedback, okay.
00:19:56
Another one was Goldcast.
00:19:58
So Goldcast looked really good, but the presets for Goldcast
00:20:03
was horizontal, right.
00:20:04
So the whole idea of repurposing videos for short
00:20:07
form.
00:20:07
Yet it seemed like for every video I would have to go in and
00:20:11
change the setting from horizontal to vertical.
00:20:13
It's vertical first, right.
00:20:15
So immediately I realized that you know, maybe it's a
00:20:18
horizontal video editing company that's trying to get into short
00:20:20
form video repurposing.
00:20:22
I don't know.
00:20:22
That was a no-go.
00:20:23
And then we have two more left right.
00:20:25
So Munch was another tool that I heard about at VidSummit that
00:20:30
had a lot of hope for, but Munch took a long time to process a
00:20:35
video.
00:20:36
By far, out of all these tools, it took the longest.
00:20:38
It also the text in order to put text on the screen for you
00:20:46
know the captions.
00:20:47
It seemed like it had a lot of functionality, yet it seemed
00:20:50
like it had very few functionality.
00:20:51
It was just not intuitive, very , very difficult to work with.
00:20:56
The last one that I thought was you know, I would say that
00:21:00
Munch is like third best right, with Opus clip being first.
00:21:04
There was a startup right, so I did.
00:21:06
This is why I look at like 10 or 15.
00:21:08
So, even if the domain rating was a little bit on the low side
00:21:11
, if it looked promising, I'm going to check it out, and that
00:21:13
is vizardai V-I-Z-A-R-D.
00:21:16
They actually came in second, even though I really haven't
00:21:18
heard a lot about them.
00:21:19
They were exposed to me through a Google search.
00:21:21
The only thing that they couldn't do of the main features
00:21:26
that I was looking for was the ability to add text.
00:21:31
So, once again, the AI is not perfect.
00:21:35
You need to have a little flexibility in order to add or
00:21:38
delete text before and after.
00:21:39
So, basically, right.
00:21:41
I then went back into Opus Clip and I realized, you know, after
00:21:44
I process a video, I'm just going to immediately download it
00:21:48
and I'm just gonna immediately upload it to Social B in case
00:21:52
closed, right?
00:21:53
So that is my advice for you.
00:21:54
The other advice is you may wanna start deleting a word here
00:21:59
or a word there.
00:21:59
Every time that you make a deletion, it basically makes a
00:22:03
split in the video and if you do too many of these, then it
00:22:07
really not only slows down the process, but it also creates
00:22:12
some impurities in the platform.
00:22:14
And what I've realized is that most video editors they might
00:22:17
begin on Opus Clip, but Opus Clip gives you the ability to
00:22:20
export as XML and then they will bring it into a more robust
00:22:26
video editing platform that allows them to do more things.
00:22:29
So what I've found and just to give you a feel for my workflow,
00:22:33
to help you visualize or, if you're already using these tools
00:22:36
to check what you're doing what I'm doing is I'm uploading
00:22:39
YouTube video.
00:22:39
It's coming out with 10, 15, 30 different posts.
00:22:43
I'm then previewing each one of those and I am immediately
00:22:46
seeing which of the ones that I'm gonna use, right, I'm not
00:22:48
gonna limit it.
00:22:49
If there's 20 great ones, awesome.
00:22:51
If there's only five great ones , awesome.
00:22:52
You know, whatever it is, opus Clip will show it to you in
00:22:57
descending order of its virality score, and it's going to be
00:23:00
interesting as I test these.
00:23:01
How accurate is that virality score?
00:23:04
I have no idea, right, but basically, once I've decided I
00:23:07
am going to use it, I then go into the edit screen.
00:23:11
Now, once I'm in the edit screen , I'm going to see.
00:23:13
You know, the first thing I'm going to see is do I need to add
00:23:16
anything before or after?
00:23:17
And it's really really easy to do this.
00:23:19
There's an add a section.
00:23:20
You could add sections in between, you know, if you really
00:23:26
want to get into it, but it's basically you know before and
00:23:28
after.
00:23:28
Is there something that I should add?
00:23:29
Opus clip also features the ability to clear filler words or
00:23:33
pauses, so I will immediately do this.
00:23:35
I've found it's really accurate .
00:23:36
It doesn't break up the flow, so immediately, you know it
00:23:39
might take it down a second or two, or what have you.
00:23:40
The next thing that I'm going to look at is are there any
00:23:45
sections now that I want to cut out?
00:23:46
Right.
00:23:47
So I've added text, so I have the context, but I'll go through
00:23:51
it again.
00:23:51
Are there any sentences that just don't make sense?
00:23:54
Or if there's a few words, I will cut those out.
00:23:55
I will also look for misspellings.
00:23:57
It's really really easy to correct misspellings here, so
00:24:00
everything I just talked about is actually really quick.
00:24:02
Then, as I see if there's anything to cut out, I'm also
00:24:06
looking.
00:24:06
Are there auto framing issues?
00:24:08
Even Opus Clip is not perfect, but if there's an auto frame
00:24:12
issue, it's really easy to basically click on the video of
00:24:15
the person, you press crop and then you can recenter it and it
00:24:20
will process it really quickly.
00:24:21
So everything I just talked about here on each video, it
00:24:24
does not have to take you that long.
00:24:25
It can be a few minutes.
00:24:27
I find where the time is spent is actually in the B-roll.
00:24:32
So the B-roll means that you watch a short form video and
00:24:35
then it will go to like a stock video or like another video,
00:24:39
right, and then it'll come back to the interview.
00:24:41
I think these are really important to keep people engaged
00:24:45
.
00:24:45
If the stock video adds value, obviously Right.
00:24:47
So what's really cool is that you can generate B roll.
00:24:51
You can generate stock B roll or you can generate AI generated
00:24:56
B roll, which I prefer, and basically you know you wait
00:24:59
maybe a minute or two and then it'll fill your video with
00:25:03
various AI B-roll and then for each of the AI B-roll, if you
00:25:07
don't like what the video is, you can go in and then re-edit
00:25:11
the prompt and regenerate, and then you get four different
00:25:14
options to choose from.
00:25:14
This is where it can take time, right, and the problem is that
00:25:20
every time you save a change, you have to go back to the main
00:25:22
dashboard, where then it takes a minute, two minutes, three
00:25:24
minutes for it to properly process, and you definitely want
00:25:27
to wait for it to process that you don't run into any issues in
00:25:29
the future.
00:25:29
But that is basically the workflow.
00:25:32
Once you do that, you're ready to go.
00:25:34
And what I really like about the sharing the post to social
00:25:37
media, I still use that functionality.
00:25:39
I do not share the post, but it generates, or auto generates,
00:25:43
using AI, a title and a description.
00:25:45
It gives me a starting point for what I can use in my own
00:25:50
short form video, so I will then copy and paste that and then go
00:25:53
into social be upload and then I'm done with the process.
00:25:56
So that's the process that I've found to be the most time
00:25:59
efficient out of all this right.
00:26:02
As I've mentioned, I've outsourced this before.
00:26:04
What am I missing?
00:26:05
The things that you miss by using Opus Pro at least I don't
00:26:09
know how to do it.
00:26:09
It's not very clear in the user interface is the ability to add
00:26:13
sound effects that sometimes you see on these short form
00:26:15
videos.
00:26:16
The ability to manually upload your own B roll or images.
00:26:21
So when I talk about my new book, to be able to like, have,
00:26:23
have the book cover appear on the screen, I think those are
00:26:28
the two big things.
00:26:29
Additional, you know, stock video or images and then sound
00:26:32
effects.
00:26:32
Those are the two things that I have not been able to figure
00:26:36
out a way to do.
00:26:37
But even without those two things, I think that just
00:26:40
getting started it a way to do.
00:26:42
But even without those two things, I think that just
00:26:43
getting started it hits 80 to 90% of what you need and, like I
00:26:47
said, these other nine platforms did not.
00:26:51
In various ways, they either did not have the functionality
00:26:53
or it was going to cost you a lot more time.
00:26:54
So that is why I highly recommend Opus Clip if you want
00:26:57
to get started.
00:26:57
If you need a little handholding, let me know I might
00:27:00
create a video of this workflow .
00:27:02
But, yeah, I think with this, there's no excuse not to get
00:27:07
started, unless you don't have time, in which case you can
00:27:09
outsource this.
00:27:10
But I do think and my experience in outsourcing this
00:27:14
is you are the creator.
00:27:16
It's really hard for other people to emulate the content
00:27:20
that you would choose to generate a short form video from
00:27:23
, and I think you're just going to be a lot more effective when
00:27:27
you do it yourself.
00:27:27
So one workflow that I'm considering in order to scale
00:27:30
this is you know, opus Clip does allow you to have team members,
00:27:33
so go in, generate the videos, choose the ones that you want to
00:27:37
make videos from, and then have someone on your team or someone
00:27:41
outsourced to work on those videos, to do the B roll, to do
00:27:45
the captions, to do all the.
00:27:46
You know the things that might take time.
00:27:48
That is probably the most efficient way of using it, and
00:27:51
that's something I'm going to look in doing if I can't find a
00:27:54
more efficient way of doing it, because, like I said, it does
00:27:57
take time, but you are creating.
00:27:58
You know, if you're posting three short-form videos a week,
00:28:02
you are creating seven weeks worth of content right Through
00:28:05
one interview or five weeks of content.
00:28:07
So when you think of it that way, you know maybe you're
00:28:11
spending one hour per week.
00:28:11
That's not a lot, but if you're very busy, obviously you want
00:28:13
to figure out a way to scale.
00:28:19
So this is really fresh in my mind and I just wanted to share
00:28:21
this with you so that you understand what is possible,
00:28:22
what isn't possible.
00:28:22
The tools are out there, the tools I recommend, and hopefully
00:28:26
, if you haven't been doing a lot of short form video like
00:28:28
myself, this will sort of put you over the hump and you'll be
00:28:32
on your way and I will say you can still record videos.
00:28:36
You could record horizontal videos from your iPhone, right
00:28:40
Of just you speaking.
00:28:41
You can then upload them to a private YouTube or you know you
00:28:44
could upload the file as well with Opus Club Don't get me
00:28:47
wrong, but you know you could use this.
00:28:49
You know, if you just wanted to talk or you just wanted to
00:28:52
respond to questions, go through FAQs.
00:28:54
You can create these short form videos to post on social media
00:28:59
with those Alex Hermosy like captions with a little bit of AI
00:29:03
generated B-roll, really, really easily, and that's the
00:29:07
main takeaway here you do not have to be a podcast or have
00:29:10
hour long YouTube interviews in order to take advantage of this.
00:29:12
All right Well, I hope you enjoyed this episode.
00:29:14
As you know, the your Digital Marketing Coach podcast switches
00:29:17
between a solo episode of what I've been working on and a
00:29:21

00:29:25
inspire me, that I think are going to inspire you.
00:29:27
So make sure, if you haven't, you hit the subscribe button and
00:29:30
I do publish.
00:29:31
At the very beginning, I talked about the various news I see in
00:29:34
my analysis.
00:29:35
I do publish that on a weekly basis.
00:29:37
Make sure you go to neilschafercom slash newsletter
00:29:40
so that you can be on the list to get that information first
00:29:42
and to be first to know when I launch the upcoming Kickstarter
00:29:45
for my new book.
00:29:46
All right well, that is all for another hopefully you thought
00:29:49
was exciting edition of the your Digital Marketing Coach podcast
